The Humble Will Inherit

Hey friends and family, gather in close. Psalm 37:10-13 says, “A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the humble will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity. The wicked plot against the godly; they gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming”. This is a word that hits deep. Life can feel like a battlefield—people scheming, words biting, or troubles piling up, making you wonder if justice will ever show up. Maybe you’ve felt the sting of someone’s lies or watched the proud strut while the humble struggle. It’s heavy, and it can rob you of rest, leaving your soul restless, like a song that can’t find its rhythm. But here’s the truth: God sees it all. The Psalmist, King David, tells us the wicked won’t last—they’ll fade like a bad note, gone before you know it. God laughs, not out of cruelty, but because He’s already won. His justice is sure, and His love is deeper than any plot against you. That love came down in Jesus, God’s only Son, who died on the cross to give you something better than revenge—rest in His victory and joy in His presence. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Jesus took the weight of every wrong, every sin, and nailed it to the cross, not so you’d fight harder, but so you could rest in Him. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). That’s the relationship He offers—a place to lay down your striving and find joy, knowing He’s got the final word. Think about it: when the world’s noise is loud—people plotting, pride flaring—what does it mean to rest in Jesus? It’s not just kicking back; it’s trusting He’s in control, even when evil seems to win. The humble, the ones who lean on Him, inherit the land—not just dirt, but a life of peace and joy that outlasts the wicked. Ever feel His peace settle in? That’s His love, saying, “I’ve got you, and I’m not letting go.” Psalm 16:11 says, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy”. Jesus’ sacrifice didn’t just save you—it brought you near, into a relationship where His joy becomes your strength, no matter what’s coming against you. So, in worship today, don’t let the wicked steal your rest. Don’t let their plots drown out His voice. Jesus died to give you peace that holds firm and joy that runs deep. Trust Him—He laughs because He’s already won. And that victory? It’s yours to live in and share, like passing a friend a song that changes their day. When did Jesus’ peace give you rest? Who needs His Gospel to find that joy?

Here are three ways to lean into His rest and joy:

1. Think on His Justice: Reflect on a time Jesus calmed your fears of injustice—write it down to let Psalm 37:10-13 sink deep.

2. Do in His Word: Read Matthew 11:28 and pray, asking Jesus to fill you with His joy in worship today.

3. Do for Others: Share a kind word or act with someone caught in life’s battles, pointing them to His love.

Let’s pray: Jesus, thank You for dying to give me rest and joy. Help me trust Your justice and share Your Gospel. “You are my hiding place” (Psalm 32:7 NLT).
